Precision ball screw

Ever notice how brand new ball screws last for years while most rebuilds are only good for a few months? Most rebuilds only last a few months because they are simply installing new balls over a polished screw. Our ball screw rebuilds will last for years because we are completely rebuilding your screw to OEM specifications and tolerances.

  • 1: Your screw is set up on a granite table where we will use an indicator to determine the lowest ball groove where the most wear is.
  • 2: Your screw is set up on a custom built thread grinder where we use a 6" wide stone that is custom ground to the depth and pitch of your screw.
  • 3: Only the ball grooves are ground, we are not changing the pitch or altering your screw in any way. The ball grooves are ground to .0001 per linear foot accuracy / T.I.R.
  • 3A: After every pass the grinding stone is re-cut to make sure there is 100% contact and your part is allowed to "spark out" until all wear is removed
  • 4: Your screw is back on the granite table where we will measure the depth again and insure we are within .0001
  • 5: Whatever stock was removed on the screw, the same amount is ground off of the ID of your nut (+/- .0002)
  • 6: New precision ground grade 25 chrome steel balls are installed (oversize to match the stock removal from screw & nut)
  • 7: Your ball screw is fully assembled with new balls and lapping compound, then "run in" for 1 to 3 hours.
  • 8: Complete disassembly and cleaning. Reassembly with grease and test run for 30 minutes.
  • 9: Final inspection, crating and shipping.
  • *A: If the screw is too loose or tight in step 7 we will make adjustments as necessary to make sure the preload is perfect.
  • *B: Wipers are replaced if necessary, returns are repaired or replaced if necessary, retaining clips, keys, screws, hardware, etc. is replaced if needed.

Precision ball screw rebuilds in 12 to 24 hours. We are capable of holding .0001 per linear foot lead accuracy on all precision ball screw assemblies. Regardless whether it's a single nut, double nut, single return or quadruple return. We will hold the tightest tolerances to OEM specs. There is no reason to purchase new and wait weeks for delivery.
